The Storm's Golden Gift
Lily loved rainy days. She loved how the rain tapped on her roof like tiny fingers. But today, the sky was darker than usual. Her curly hair blew wildly in the wind as she pressed her nose against the window glass.
CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, turning everything purple for one magical second. Lily had never seen such bright lightning before—it looked like someone had spilled a jar of glitter in the clouds.
"Come outside!" a tiny voice squeaked.
Lily rubbed her eyes. Was that a squirrel? No, it was a small bluebird with feathers as bright as berries!
"But there's a storm," Lily said.
"That's why you must come! The lightning has dropped something special in the garden!"
Lily grabbed her yellow raincoat and started running outside. Her boots splashed in puddles that sparkled like diamonds. The bluebird flew ahead, guiding her toward the old papaya tree at the bottom of the garden.
There, glowing softly in the rain, was the most beautiful papaya Lily had ever seen. It shimmered with golden light, as if it had captured a piece of the lightning inside it.
"This is a Storm Fruit," the bluebird explained. "It only appears when lightning blesses the garden. Whoever eats it receives a special gift."
Lily picked it up carefully. It was warm, like a little sun in her hands. She thought of her grandmother, who had been feeling lonely lately. Without hesitation, she started running back to the house, her wet hair dripping, her heart full of excitement.
She shared the magical papaya with her grandmother. As they ate, golden sparkles danced around them, and her grandmother's eyes twinkled with joy.
"Thank you, my little storm-chaser," her grandmother whispered, hugging her tight.
Lily learned that day that the best gifts aren't meant to be kept—they're meant to be shared with the people you love. And sometimes, the most magical things appear when you're brave enough to run through the storm.
