The Storm Pool Surprise
Leo sat by the edge of the backyard pool, watching dark clouds gather overhead. His mom had just told him to eat his spinach before swimming, but he'd refused. Spinach was yucky!
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky like a giant crackling paintbrush. Thunder rumbled so loudly the pool water rippled and danced.
Then something magical happened. The pool water began to glow with a soft green light. From the shimmering depths, a friendly bull with golden horns and fur the color of summer grass emerged!
"Hello there!" said the bull, shaking sparkly water from his coat. "I'm Barnaby. And I smelled something delicious."
Leo's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"
"Only during lightning storms over swimming pools," Barnaby said with a wink. He sniffed the air again. "Is that... spinach?"
Leo nodded slowly. "But it's gross."
Barnaby laughed, a sound like twinkling bells. "Oh, my dear friend, spinach is what gives magic bulls their strength! It's how I can swim and walk on clouds! Would you like to see?"
Before Leo could answer, Barnaby leaped into the air and did a backflip, landing softly on the pool's surface without sinking!
"Want to try something magical?" Barnaby asked. "Just eat three pieces of spinach, close your eyes, and make a wish."
Leo thought for a moment. He really wanted to do cool tricks like Barnaby. He ran inside, grabbed three spinach leaves, and ate them quickly. They actually tasted pretty good!
He closed his eyes and wished as hard as he could.
When he opened them, he was floating slightly above the ground!
"I did it!" Leo cheered.
Barnaby smiled. "You see? Sometimes the things we think we don't like can surprise us. And trying new things opens up whole worlds of magic."
As the storm passed and Barnaby faded back into the pool, he called, "Remember, magic is everywhere if you're brave enough to try!"
That night, Leo asked for seconds on spinach. Some surprises really are worth it.
