The Storm Kitchen Surprise

Leo hated spinach. Every time his mom served those green leaves, he made a face. "It's like eating grass from the garden," he'd complain, pushing his plate away.

One stormy evening, lightning flashed across the sky while Leo sat at the dinner table. His mom had made a special spinach salad with bright orange carrots and red cherry tomatoes. "Just try one bite," she said gently. "You might be surprised."

Leo took a tiny bite. At that exact moment, a bolt of lightning lit up the whole kitchen. Something magical happened! Leo felt a tingle in his toes that rushed all the way to his nose. Suddenly, the kitchen air felt thick and swirly, like water.

He pushed off his chair and discovered he could swim through the air! Leo did a backstroke past the refrigerator and a breaststroke around the table. He was swimming indoors!

"This is amazing!" Leo cheered, somersaulting through the air like a dolphin. He swam to the window and watched the lightning dance in the clouds outside. Each flash made his body shimmer with green sparkles—the same color as spinach!

Leo swam back to his plate and ate three more leaves of spinach. With each bite, he swam faster and higher. He realized something important: sometimes the things we think we dislike can become our greatest gifts. He had been so sure spinach was terrible, but it had given him this magical adventure.

The storm passed, and Leo slowly floated back down to his chair. His mom smiled as she watched him finish every bite of spinach on his plate.

"Can I have this salad tomorrow?" Leo asked.

His mom's eyes widened in surprise. "I thought you didn't like spinach."

Leo grinned. "I learned that sometimes, the things we're scared to try might just be the best things of all. Besides, I want to be ready for the next storm!"

From that day on, Leo was always the first to try new things. And whenever lightning flashed across the sky, he wondered what other magical surprises were waiting to be discovered.
