The Storm Cloud's Gift

Lila's fluffy brown hair always stuck straight up during thunderstorms. Her grandmother said it was because hair knows when magic is near.

Tonight, the sky crackled with bright lightning that flashed like nature's camera. Lila pressed her nose against the rain-streaked window, watching.

Then she saw it—something green and lumpy shambling through her garden. A zombie!

Lila grabbed her yellow rainboots and tiptoed outside. The creature stopped and looked at her with big, sad eyes.

"Are you lost?" Lila whispered.

The zombie nodded slowly. It pointed at a dark cloud hovering above.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the ground! But it wasn't scary—it sparkled with glittery colors, like rainbow candy.

The zombie reached out with one green hand, and its fingers began to glow. The lightning had given it magic!

"My name is Zola," the zombie said, and her voice sounded like wind chimes. "I'm not really a zombie. I'm a cloud spirit who lost my way home."

Lila's wild hair crackled with static as Zola reached toward the sky. More colorful lightning swirled around them.

"We need running feet to make a magic bridge!" Zola cheered.

So they ran—splashing through puddles, zigzagging through the garden, spinning in circles until they were dizzy with laughter. Each step left a glowing footprint behind.

Soon, a shimmering path of light stretched all the way to the clouds.

"Thank you, Lila!" Zola hugged her with a soft, marshmallowy squeeze. "You made the friendliest bridge anyone ever saw!"

As Zola floated up the path, she sprinkled something that landed in Lila's hair. Tiny silver stars!

"Whenever storms come, remember our friendship," Zola called, disappearing into the clouds.

Lila touched her star-sparkled hair and smiled. The lightning wasn't scary anymore—it was just Zola saying hello from her cloud home, reminding her that running wild with friends is the best kind of magic.
