The Storm Cloud Dog
Lily had the most curious hair in all of Willow Creek. Whenever something magical was near, her brown curls would stand straight up, ticking her ears like tiny electric spider legs. The other children laughed, but Lily didn't mind. She knew her hair was special — it was her magic detector.
One rainy afternoon, while splashing in puddles, her hair suddenly stood so tall she could feel the tingles all the way to her toes. That's when she saw him — a small, fluffy creature dancing through the storm clouds above.
"Hello!" Lily called. "What are you?"
The creature tumbled down, landing with a gentle *plop* beside her. He looked like a puppy, but his fur was made of swirling gray clouds, and his tail sparked with tiny bolts of lightning.
"I'm Bolt!" the puppy yipped, his crackly voice sounding like Rice Krispies popping. "I'm a storm cloud dog! I make the lightning!"
Lily's heart fluttered. "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"
Bolt's tail sparked brighter. "Really? Most people run away when they see my lightning. They think I'm scary."
"But lightning isn't scary," Lily said, her hair still tingling with magic. "It's the sky's way of painting pictures!"
Bolt's eyes widened. "You really think so?"
Lily nodded. "Show me your best lightning!"
Bolt bounded into the clouds, his whole body glowing with happiness. *ZAP! FLASH! SPARKLE!* He created dancing unicorns, smiling dragons, and even a portrait of Lily herself, all made of shimmering light against the dark sky.
The other children, who had been hiding indoors, ran outside to watch. They gasped in wonder.
"Can we be friends?" Bolt asked, floating down beside her. "I've never had a friend before."
Lily's hair curled around her ears, warm and happy. "Of course! We'll be the best of friends. You can paint the sky, and I'll tell everyone how beautiful it is."
And that's how Lily learned that things that seem different or scary might just be lonely — waiting for someone who sees the magic inside them.
Now, whenever you see lightning during a storm, look closely. If you see a dog-shaped cloud dancing in the flashes, you'll know Bolt and Lily are painting pictures for their friends below.
