The Storm Chaser's Gift

lightningrunningbear

Lila loved storms. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rumbled, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One evening, as lightning flashed across the dark clouds, Lila noticed something peculiar. A tiny creature was running through her garden — a bear cub no bigger than a stuffed animal, its fur glowing with the same brilliant blue as the storm above.

"Wait!" Lila called, grabbing her yellow rainboots.

She followed the glowing cub into the forest, where trees whispered ancient secrets. The bear stopped beside a crystal-clear stream and looked at her with eyes like twin moons.

"I'm Stormy," the bear spoke, his voice like gentle rain. "I'm a Storm Keeper. I collect lightning to keep the forest's magic alive."

Lila's eyes widened. "Really?"

Stormy nodded sadly. "But tonight, the Great Storm is coming. The lightning moves too fast for me to catch. If I don't gather enough, the forest's magic will fade forever."

Lila's mind raced. She remembered her science teacher saying that lightning always struck the highest point. "I have an idea!"

They worked together, stacking fallen branches and smooth stones into tall towers throughout the forest. Running from spot to spot, Lila placed metal objects she'd brought from home — her dad's old compass, her silver whistle, her grandmother's locket.

"Perfect!" Stormy exclaimed.

When the Great Storm arrived, lightning danced across the sky and found their towers. Each strike was captured in small glass jars Stormy had prepared. The bear's fur glowed brighter and brighter as the magic filled the forest.

"We did it!" Lila cheered, her heart full.

Stormy pressed something into her palm — a tiny glass jar containing a miniature bolt of lightning, forever frozen in time. "For the bravest friend a Storm Keeper ever had. Whenever you need courage, just hold it tight."

Lila kept that jar on her nightstand forever. And whenever storms came, she never feared them anymore. She knew that somewhere in the forest, a tiny bear was running through the rain, keeping magic alive for everyone.

Sometimes, she even saw him from her window, his fur glowing blue against the dark sky, waving hello with his paw.

And Lila would wave back, her heart full of wonder, knowing that magic was real, and friendship could be found in the most unexpected places — even during a storm.
