The Storm Cat's Gift
Lily loved stormy days. While other children hid inside, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.
One rainy afternoon, a flash of lightning split the sky. But this wasn't ordinary lightning — it sparkled in brilliant shades of purple and gold. Lily gasped as something small and glowing tumbled from the light and landed softly in her garden.
She ran outside, rain puddling around her bare feet. There, shaking on a wet rose petal, sat the tiniest cat she had ever seen — no bigger than her thumb, with fur that shimmered like captured starlight.
"Hello, little one," Lily whispered, cupping her hands gently.
The tiny cat looked up with eyes like miniature moons. "I'm a Storm Cat," it squeaked. "I fell from the lightning! Now I can't get back home."
Lily's heart squeezed. She'd never had a true friend before. "I'll help you!"
She made a cozy nest in a teacup with wool and feathers. For three days, she shared her meals with the Storm Cat, told stories, and showed him her favorite hiding spots in the garden. They became the best of friends.
On the fourth night, another storm approached. The Storm Cat's fur began to glow brighter and brighter.
"My family is calling!" he squeaked excitedly. "But I'll miss you, Lily."
"I'll miss you too," she said, trying to be brave.
The Storm Cat nuzzled her finger. "True friends are never really apart. Just close your eyes and wish on storm clouds — I'll hear you."
With a joyful mew, he leaped into a flash of purple lightning and vanished.
Now, whenever storms gather, Lily rushes to the window. Sometimes, if she watches closely, she sees tiny glowing cats dancing in the lightning. And she smiles, knowing her friend is always there, just a wish away.
The best friends, she learned, are the ones who stay in your heart even when they're far away.
