The Storm Bull's Secret
Lily loved summer evenings, especially when the sky turned purple and heavy clouds rolled in like cotton balls across the horizon. Her grandmother called them thunderheads, but Lily thought they looked like sleeping giants.
One evening, as the first rumble of thunder shook the farmhouse, Lily spotted something strange in the meadow behind their barn. A magnificent bull with a coat as dark as midnight stood beneath an ancient oak tree. But this wasn't Farmer McGregor's bull—this one had horns that shimmered like silver raindrops and eyes that glowed with the same soft light as lightning bugs.
The bull lowered his massive head and looked directly at Lily. To her surprise, he spoke in a voice like distant thunder rolling across hills.
"I need your help, little one. I am Tempest, keeper of the storms. For a hundred years, I have painted lightning across the sky to water the crops and fill the rivers. But lately, my sparks have grown weak."
Tempest explained that he needed special storm vitamins—magical golden clovers that grew only on the highest hill during the peak of a storm. His old joints couldn't climb like they used to.
Without hesitation, Lily grabbed her raincoat and rubber boots. She and Tempest climbed the hill together, the bull's warm presence reassuring as the wind whipped around them. Lightning crackled across the sky, and Lily understood now—Tempest wasn't scary. He was magical and necessary.
At the hilltop, beneath a particularly dramatic flash of lightning, Lily spotted the golden clovers glowing against the dark grass. She gathered them carefully, and Tempest ate them with gratitude.
"Thank you," he rumbled softly. "Friendship is the strongest magic of all."
That summer, every time Lily saw lightning streak across the sky, she knew Tempest was up there, painting beautiful storms. And sometimes, if she looked very carefully, she thought she saw his silver horns flashing in the clouds.
Lily had learned that even the most powerful creatures sometimes need help, and that true friendship means being there when someone needs you most—even if that someone is a magical storm bull who paints lightning across the sky.
