The Storm Bull's Gift
Maya lived on a tiny island where the sky kissed the sea. Every afternoon, she would sit beneath her favorite palm tree, watching the clouds paint pictures above her. One day, the sky turned dark purple, and strange lightning flashed in patterns like hidden messages.
From the storm clouds galloped the most magnificent creature Maya had ever seen—a great white bull made entirely of swirling storm clouds and crackling energy. His hooves struck the ground with thunderclaps, and his horns glowed with captured lightning.
"Please!" Maya cried out, standing tall despite her trembling knees. "Don't hurt my island!"
The Storm Bull stopped. He lowered his massive head, his eyes like whirlpools of gray light. "Little one, I bring the rain your island needs. But no one has ever welcomed me before."
Maya's fear melted away. She reached out her hand, and incredibly, the Storm Bull leaned forward until his soft nose touched her palm. A warm tingle rushed through her, like sunshine breaking through clouds.
"Stay with me," Maya whispered. "You don't have to be lonely."
The Storm Bull's form shifted and changed until a gentle boy stood before her, with hair white as clouds and eyes full of storm-colored light. His name was Zephyr, and he had been riding storms for centuries, searching for someone who wasn't afraid.
For three wonderful days, Zephyr showed Maya how to dance on raindrops and ride the wind. He taught her that every storm carries gifts of water and wonder, if you're brave enough to welcome them.
But islands need rain, and storms must move on. "I'll visit every summer," Zephyr promised, as his form became cloud-like again. "You'll know I'm coming when you feel the first cool breeze against your palm."
Maya waved as the Storm Bull galloped back into the sky, leaving behind the sweetest, gentlest rain the island had ever known. Now, whenever storms darken the horizon, Maya doesn't hide. She stands beneath her palm tree, hand outstretched, welcoming old friends with new gifts.
