The Storm Bull's Gift
Lily lived in a cottage at the edge of Whispering Woods, where the trees told secrets to anyone patient enough to listen. She had a very special friend—Barnaby, a scruffy golden dog with one ear that flopped down and one that stood straight up, like he was always paying attention to magic.
One afternoon, dark clouds gathered like piles of purple cotton candy. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy after too much lunch. Lily hurried inside with Barnaby, but then she heard it—a sad, lonely bellowing from the meadow.
"Someone's hurt!" Lily cried.
Barnaby barked bravely, and together they rushed outside. There, tangled in an old fence, was a baby bull. His coat was the color of storm clouds, and his eyes were wide with fear. Lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating his silver horns that glowed like moonlight.
"Don't worry," Lily whispered, approaching slowly. "We'll help you."
The bull trembled as thunder crashed overhead. Lily spoke softly while Barnaby licked the bull's nose. Working together, they untangled the poor creature from the fence. But he was too scared to move.
Then something magical happened. Lightning struck an old oak tree nearby, and from its branches fell a single golden apple that shimmered like the sun. Lily picked it up and offered it to the bull.
The young bull's eyes widened. He took the apple gently, and as he ate, his silver horns glowed brighter. The storm clouds began to part, revealing a rainbow more brilliant than any Lily had ever seen.
"Thank you," the bull seemed to say, dipping his head. He touched his nose to Lily's hand, and suddenly she could hear the trees' secrets too.
"We're all friends now," Lily smiled, hugging Barnaby.
The storm bull returned to his herd, but sometimes, when storms gather over Whispering Woods, Lily sees a familiar silhouette with silver-horned antlers against the sky. And she knows that true friends help each other, even when thunder rumbles and lightning cracks, because kindness is the strongest magic of all.
