The Storm Bear's Secret
Barnaby was the smallest bear in the Whispering Woods, and he was afraid of everything—especially storms. Every spring, dark clouds gathered above the forest, and Barnaby would hide in his cave, trembling.
One rainy afternoon, as Barnaby peeked out from his cave, he saw something magical. A bolt of lightning struck an ancient oak tree, and when the flash faded, a single bright orange fruit appeared on its highest branch. It glowed like a tiny sun.
Barnaby's curiosity battled his fear. He climbed the tree slowly, his heart pounding. When he reached the orange, he discovered it pulsed with warm light. An old owl appeared beside him.
"That's a Lightning Orange," the owl whispered wisely. "It appears only when storms share their magic. It's filled with courage vitamins—for whoever eats it becomes brave enough to help others."
Barnaby thought of all the smaller animals hiding in the dark, scared of the thunder. He took a bite. The orange tasted like sunshine and sparkles. Suddenly, his fear melted away, replaced by a warm glow in his chest.
He climbed down and found trembling rabbits, frightened chipmunks, and scared squirrels. Barnaby gathered them all into his warm cave, told them funny stories, and sang songs until the storm passed. For the first time, the smallest bear was the bravest of all.
The next morning, the animals thanked him. Barnaby realized something wonderful: the magic hadn't been just in the orange. True courage comes from choosing to help others, even when you're scared.
From that day on, whenever storms came, Barnaby didn't hide. Instead, he made sure everyone felt safe and brave together. And sometimes, if he looked very carefully, he could still see tiny orange glows in the treetops—reminders that even the scariest things can create something beautiful and good.
