The Starry Pool Surprise
Lily loved her purple hat with the silver star on top. It wasn't just any hat—her grandmother had given it to her, saying it held a sprinkle of magic.
One warm afternoon, Lily sat by the old pond behind her house, dangling her feet in the cool water. She called it her pool, even though it was much smaller than the one at the community center. Dragonflies zoomed like tiny helicopters, and frogs sang their croaky songs.
Suddenly, something splashed!
Lily jumped up, her purple hat almost falling off. A enormous head popped out of the water. But it wasn't a monster or a dragon. It was a bull—a friendly-looking one with golden fur and spirals like rainbows on his horns.
"Hello there," the bull said softly. "I'm Barnaby."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"
"Magic pool water," Barnaby winked. "One sip, and you can chat with anyone. But I have a problem. The water is losing its magic. Without it, all the animals forget how to be friends."
He showed Lily the pool bottom. Usually, it sparkled like diamonds. Now, it looked dull and gray.
"What happened?" Lily asked.
"The star-vitamin stone fell out," Barnaby sighed. "It's a special stone that keeps the magic alive. Without those star-vitamins, the pool is just regular water."
Lily's grandmother had told her about star-vitamins—tiny specks of magic that fall from shooting stars and make ordinary things extraordinary.
"Let's find it!" Lily said, grabbing her bull friend's horn (gently, of course).
They searched through tall grass and under bushes. Finally, Lily spotted something glowing near an old oak tree. The star-vitamin stone!
But it was stuck in a tangle of thorny vines. Lily tried to reach it, but the thorns were too sharp. Barnaby used his strong horns to carefully push the vines aside. Working together, they freed the glowing stone.
When they dropped it back into the pool, the water instantly sparkled again. Fish danced, frogs sang louder, and even the trees seemed to smile.
"Thank you, Lily," Barnaby said. "You saved friendship magic."
From that day on, Lily wore her purple hat every time she visited the pool. And sometimes, if she looked carefully, she could see Barnaby the bull waving from the middle of the water, reminding her that kindness and cooperation are the strongest magic of all.
