The Starry Pool
Lila loved bedtime, but tonight she couldn't sleep. Through her window, she noticed something strange — her golden retriever **Barnaby the dog** was wagging his tail at the moon.
"Come here, boy!" Lila whispered, but Barnaby just kept wagging. Then something magical happened. The moonbeams streaming through her window began to glow brighter and brighter, until they formed a shimmering path right outside her door!
Lila followed Barnaby down the hall, past the kitchen, and into the backyard. But the yard had changed completely. An enormous **pool of silver water** had appeared, its surface reflecting thousands of twinkling stars. And floating in the middle was a giant **orange** — the size of a beach ball!
"Whoa," breathed Lila.
Just then, the most magnificent creature emerged from the starry pool. It looked like a **bull** made entirely of moonlight and stardust, with horns that glowed like crescent moons. But his eyes were kind and gentle.
"Welcome, Lila," the Star Bull said in a voice like wind chimes. "I am Taurus, guardian of dreams. Every hundred years, someone pure of heart finds the Starry Pool. You must be special."
Lila's eyes widened. "Me? But I'm just a kid."
Barnaby barked happily and jumped into the pool, splashing silver droplets everywhere.
"Even a small **dog** knows courage when he sees it," Taurus smiled. "The orange you see contains a single wish. But beware — some wishes change more than you expect."
Lila thought hard. What did she truly want? More toys? No. To fly? Maybe. But as she looked at Taurus and thought about all the children who might never discover something magical, she knew.
"I wish that every child could see magic in ordinary things. Like noticing the shapes in clouds, or finding wonder in a garden, or seeing kindness everywhere."
The giant **orange** burst into golden light that swirled around the world like glitter. When the light faded, the Starry Pool was gone. Taurus had vanished too.
But something had changed. As Lila looked around her yard, she saw it — the moonlight made patterns like dancing fairies. The trees whispered ancient secrets. And Barnaby's fur seemed to sparkle with starlight.
"Did you see that?" she asked, hugging her dog.
Barnaby licked her cheek, and Lila knew: magic had always been there. She just needed eyes to see it. And now, thanks to her wish, children everywhere would wake up tomorrow and find magic in the most unexpected places.
That night, Lila fell asleep to the sound of stars twinkling, dreaming of her friend the Star Bull, knowing that wonder lives wherever you look for it.
