The Starry Bull's Secret
Leo loved helping his grandmother in her garden. But today, something magical happened. Behind the tomato plants, he found the most enormous papaya he'd ever seen—glowing golden like a tiny sun.
"What are you?" Leo whispered, touching the warm skin.
Suddenly, the papaya popped open like a door! Leo tumbled inside and landed in soft sand. Towering above him stood a magnificent sphinx with long, flowing hair that sparkled like stardust.
"Welcome, little one," said the sphinx. "I've waited fifty years for someone brave enough to find my papaya door. But now, you must solve my riddle to return home."
Leo gulped. "I'm not good at riddles."
The sphinx smiled sadly. "Few are. That's why so many children stay here forever, watching their hair turn white as the seasons pass."
Just then, a gentle snuffling noise came from behind a dune. A magnificent bull emerged, its coat covered in shimmering stars. But what made Leo gasp was its mane—long, silky hair in every color of the rainbow.
"That's Comet," said the sphinx. "He's been here longer than anyone. He's never solved my riddle."
Comet nuzzled Leo's hand, and suddenly, Leo could hear the bull's thoughts! *I need help too. I miss my family in the sky.*
"Wait!" Leo said excitedly. "We should work together!"
The sphinx raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. What's my riddle, then?"
"What has hands but cannot clap?" asked the sphinx.
Leo looked at Comet. The starry bull pawed the sand. *A clock!* Leo thought. *No, that's not it...*
Then Leo remembered his grandmother's clock. The clock had hands!
"A clock!" Leo shouted. "It has hands but cannot clap!"
"Correct!" cried the sphinx, clapping her golden hands. "But you didn't solve it alone—you worked together. That's the real answer I was looking for."
She waved her hand, and the papaya reappeared. "Anytime you need help with something difficult, remember: ask a friend. Together, you're always smarter."
Leo hugged Comet goodbye. "We'll be friends forever!"
As Leo stepped back through the papaya door, he heard Comet calling from above. Looking up, he saw the bull galloping across the night sky, his rainbow hair trailing like a comet's tail.
Grandmother was waiting. "Did you find anything interesting in the garden, Leo?"
Leo smiled, touching something warm in his pocket—a tiny star that Comet had given him. "Just a papaya, Grandma. And a new friend."
