The Starry Bull's Baseball Wish
Lily hated spinach. Every dinner, her mom said, "Eat your greens! It's like a magic vitamin for your body!" But Lily just pushed the green leaves around her plate.
One afternoon, Lily was running through the garden when she spotted something strange. Behind the old oak tree stood a magnificent bull with shimmering silver fur and stars twinkling in his eyes.
"Hello there," the bull said gently. Lily nearly fainted—a talking bull!
"I'm Orion," the bull explained. "I'm the keeper of the Taurus constellation. But I fell from the sky and can't return until someone helps me."
Lily's heart pounded. "How can I help?"
Orion's eyes lit up. "Do you see that baseball glove on your fence? I've watched you play. Baseball reminds me of how planets orbit—everyone running around the bases in perfect circles. If you can hit this magical baseball"—he nudged a glowing sphere with his nose—"through that ring in the sky during tonight's meteor shower, I'll fly home."
Lily practiced all afternoon. Orion coached her, his deep voice encouraging every swing. As dusk fell, her mom called, "Lily! Dinner's ready—spinach salad!"
Orion whispered, "The star-spinach in your garden is special. It gives you courage when you need it most."
Lily ate every bite. Something sparkled in her veins—not like a vitamin from a bottle, but like starlight itself.
That night, under streaking meteors, Lily swung with all her might. The baseball soared higher and higher, streaming through the sky-ring like a shooting star in reverse. Instantly, Orion transformed into pure light and zoomed upward, joining his constellation.
"Thank you, Lily!" his voice echoed from above. "You're the bravest friend I've ever known."
Now whenever Lily plays baseball, she aims for the stars. And somehow, she always hits a home run.
