The Starlight Vitamin
Lily was lonely. Every day after school, she'd sit by her window watching the world go by, wishing for someone to share her adventures. One rainy afternoon, something peculiar caught her eye—a ginger cat with whiskers like silver threads, perched on her garden wall.
The cat wasn't ordinary. When their eyes met, Lily could have sworn the cat winked at her. Then the most curious thing happened. The cat reached into her fur and pulled out something glowing—something that looked like a tiny star.
"A starlight vitamin," the cat said, her voice like jingling bells. "For children who need a little extra shine."
Lily rubbed her eyes. Cats didn't talk!
"I'm Mittens," the cat continued, hopping through the window. "And you look like you could use a friend."
Mittens explained that she collected stars that fell from the sky, grinding them into magical vitamins. Each one contained a different gift: courage, kindness, creativity, or joy.
"Which vitamin do you need?" Mittens asked, arranging several glowing tablets on Lily's desk. They shimmered in colors Lily had never seen—purple like twilight, gold like sunshine, blue like ocean depths.
Lily thought carefully. She wanted to be braver, to talk to other children at school, to raise her hand in class even when she wasn't sure of the answer.
"The confidence vitamin," Mittens said, selecting a sparkly orange one. "But remember, little one—magic vitamins only work if you do too."
Lily swallowed it, and warmth spread through her like honey. The next day, something amazing happened. When her teacher asked a question, Lily's hand went up before she could even think about it. Her voice didn't shake. And at recess, she approached a girl sitting alone and asked if she wanted to play.
They became best friends.
That night, Mittens appeared again. "See? You had the magic inside you all along. The vitamin just helped you believe it."
Lily hugged the cat tight. "Thank you, Mittens. But aren't you going to run out of stars?"
Mittens purred. "Every time someone uses their magic wisely, a new star appears in the sky. That's how it works—giving creates more."
Lily learned that day that the best vitamins don't come from bottles. They come from friendship, courage, and the magic we share with others. And sometimes, they come from extraordinary cats who collect stars.
