The Starlight Vitamin

Lily loved nothing more than running through the meadow behind her house, her golden dog Barnaby bouncing beside her. Every morning before school, they would race to the old oak tree where morning light spilled through the leaves like honey.

One Tuesday, Barnaby stopped running. His tail stopped wagging. He just lay in the grass and sighed.

"What's wrong, Barnaby?" Lily asked, worried.

Her grandmother looked at Barnaby kindly. "He needs something special," she said. "A starlight vitamin."

Lily's eyes went wide. "A what?"

"A starlight vitamin," Grandmother whispered. "It's made from the first star you see at night, caught in a jar of wishes. But you have to be quick—stars are shy."

That night, Lily sat by her window with an empty glass jar. Barnaby slept nearby. When the first star appeared, she whispered her wish: "Please make my best friend feel better."

The star twinkled brighter and brighter until a tiny sparkle drifted down, floating like a firefly. Lily caught it gently in her jar. It glowed soft blue, warm against her palm.

Grandmother helped her mix the starlight into a spoonful of honey. "Now," she said, "this is the secret—starlight vitamins only work with friendship sprinkled on top."

Lily fed it to Barnaby. His tail gave one thump. Then two. Then suddenly he was up, running circles around her, barking with joy!

The next morning, they were running through the meadow again, faster than ever, Barnaby's golden coat shining in the sunlight.

Lily learned something important that day: The best medicine isn't just what you swallow—it's made of wishes and friendship, given with love.

And whenever Barnaby seemed tired, Lily would just look at the stars and remember: magic is real, especially when you believe in it together.
