The Starlight Swimming Pool

Toby hated spinach. Every time his mom served those green leaves, he made a face like he'd swallowed a lemon.

One afternoon, while hiding behind the old oak tree to avoid eating his vegetables, Toby noticed something strange. Mrs. Peabody's garden gate was swinging open, and something was glowing near the spinach patch.

Toby's feet started running before his brain could decide. His sneakers crunched on fallen leaves as he peeked through the fence. There, between the rows of green leaves, tiny stars were falling from the sky and landing right on the spinach plants!

Each star made the spinach sparkle like diamonds. But then the stars rolled right off the leaves and started running across the garden, heading toward the dark forest behind Mrs. Peabody's house.

"Wait!" Toby cried, forgetting all about his hate for vegetables. He started running too, chasing the sparkling stars.

The stars led him deeper into the forest than he'd ever gone. Fireflies danced around him, lighting his way. Suddenly, the stars stopped running and gathered in a clearing.

Toby gasped. In the middle of the woods was a beautiful swimming pool, but it wasn't filled with regular water. The pool was filled with liquid starlight, shimmering silver and blue, with tiny galaxies swirling inside it.

The little stars jumped in happily, making soft splashing sounds that sounded like wind chimes.

"This is where stars play during the day," whispered a voice. Toby turned to see Mrs. Peabody smiling behind him. "They hide in my spinach patch at night, and by morning, they leave a little magic behind. That's why my vegetables grow so big!"

Toby looked at the magical pool, then at Mrs. Peabody, then back toward the house.

"Can I try swimming there?" he asked.

"Only if you promise to eat your spinach," Mrs. Peabody winked. "After all, that's what gives the stars their energy to run all the way here."

That night at dinner, Toby ate every bite of his spinach without making a single face. And that night, he dreamed of running through the forest, diving into a pool of stars, and discovering that sometimes the things we think we hate might just be magical in disguise.
