The Starlight Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved exploring the attic, but she never expected to find a glowing crystal tucked inside an old wooden box. When she touched it, the room swirled with sparkles, and suddenly she stood in a magical meadow under purple skies.
Before her stood an enormous sphinx with emerald eyes and fur that shimmered like moonlight. But this sphinx didn't look like the scary ones in books. She looked lonely.
"Hello," said Lily bravely. "I'm Lily."
The sphinx's eyes widened. "No one has spoken to me in three hundred years! I'm Cleopatra, and I guard the Starlight Garden. But I have a problem."
A massive golden bull trotted out from behind some glowing bushes. He had a rainbow-colored nose and looked more like a giant puppy than a scary bull.
"This is Barnaby," Cleopatra said. "He's my best friend, but we can't reach the starlight field across the Crystal Canyon. The bridge broke long ago."
Lily peered over the edge. A deep canyon stretched below, and on the other side, plants glowed with every color imaginable.
"Those are starlight vitamins," Cleopatra explained. "They give magical creatures the energy to create dreams for children. Without them, no one will have good dreams tonight!"
Lily spotted a thick silver cable dangling from a nearby tree. "What if we used this cable to swing across?"
Cleopatra's eyes lit up. "But who's brave enough?"
Barnaby snorted and pawed the ground. Lily climbed onto his back, and the sphinx tied the cable to a strong branch.
"Hold tight!" Cleopatra called.
With a mighty leap, Barnaby swung across the canyon, his golden hooves kicking up stardust. Lily whooped with joy as they soared through the purple sky. They landed safely in the starlight field.
Lily filled her pockets with glowing berries—red, blue, green, and yellow. On the way back, Barnaby swung even higher, and Lily laughed until her sides hurt.
That night, children everywhere had the most wonderful dreams. And sometimes, if you look closely at the stars, you can still see Lily, Cleopatra, and Barnaby swinging across the canyon on their silver cable, gathering starlight vitamins to keep the magic alive.
Lily learned that even the loneliest creatures need friends, and the biggest problems can be solved with courage, creativity, and a little help from a friend with a rainbow nose.
