The Starlight Pool
Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's cottage, where ancient trees whispered secrets. One shimmering afternoon, she discovered something magical—a tiny pool no bigger than a dinner plate, tucked beneath a weeping willow.
But this wasn't ordinary water. The pool glowed with liquid silver, and tiny stars swam inside it like minnows made of light. Lily knelt closer, mesmerized. The stars were running in lazy circles, leaving trails of rainbow sparkle wherever they swam.
"You found my star-pool!" said a tiny voice.
Lily jumped. A creature no bigger than her thumb peeked from behind a clover flower. He had wings like a dragonfly and skin that shimmered like moonlight.
"I'm Pip," he said. "These stars fell from the sky last night. I'm keeping them safe until they learn to fly back home."
Lily watched the stars running faster now, excited by the visitor. "Can I help?"
Pip smiled. "Only if you promise something. Whenever you see water—in a puddle, a stream, or even in your kitchen—you must remember that magic hides in ordinary places. Wonder lives everywhere, but only curious hearts find it."
Lily promised solemnly. Together, she and Pip sang a silly song while the stars practiced flying. One by one, they shot upward, trailing silver laughter, until the pool held only ordinary water.
"Thank you," Pip said, pressing something into Lily's palm—a tiny star that still gleamed warmly. "Now you have your own piece of magic. But remember..."
"...wonder hides everywhere," Lily finished, grinning.
That night, Lily placed her star in a glass of water by her bed. It glowed softly, running with tiny ripples of light, reminding her that adventure awaits anyone brave enough to look beneath the surface of things.
And sometimes, if you're very lucky, you'll find a pool of magic waiting just for you.
