The Starlight Pool

Lily's backyard pool looked ordinary during the day. But at midnight, it transformed into something magical.

"Did you see that?" whispered Maya, her best friend who was sleeping over. The water wasn't blue anymore—it was swirling with silver sparkles, like someone had spilled a jar of captured stars.

Together, they knelt at the edge. The water rippled without any wind. Something floated to the surface—a golden padel with shimmering wings etched into its handle. It wasn't like any paddle they'd seen. It hummed with a gentle warmth.

"Touch it," Lily said softly.

When Maya's fingers brushed the padel, the pool's surface suddenly rose upward, defying gravity. Water droplets suspended in mid-air, then arranged themselves into a glowing pyramid of liquid light.

"A pyramid of starwater," Maya breathed.

Inside the pyramid, images danced—children from different times and places, all discovering the same magical pool. A boy in ancient Egypt playing with a lion cub. A girl from the future skating on moonbeams. They were all connected by wonder.

The padel pulsed in Maya's hand. She understood what to do. Gently, she tapped the side of the pyramid. Ripples of light expanded outward, carrying their laughter into the night sky, where it became new stars.

"Every friend who finds the pool adds their light," Lily realized, watching their sparkles join the ancient ones above. "We're part of something bigger."

They swam until dawn, making ripples that would become someone else's stars someday. The pool looked ordinary again by morning, but Lily and Maya knew the truth. Magic wasn't gone. It was just waiting for the next friend to believe.

And somewhere, in another backyard, another pool was just beginning to glow.
