The Starlight Pool
Lily loved the old forest behind her house, especially the hidden pool she discovered last summer. The water sparkled like diamonds when sunlight hit it, and at night, it reflected so many stars that it looked like a piece of sky had fallen to earth.
One warm evening, Lily crept through the tall grass to visit her special place. The full moon painted everything silver as she sat by the pool's edge, dipping her toes in the cool water. Suddenly, the surface began to glow.
"Hello, little friend," a deep voice rumbled.
Lily jumped! A huge bear emerged from behind an oak tree—but not just any bear. This bear's fur shimmered with starlight, and his eyes held the wisdom of a thousand summers.
"I'm Bartholomew," the bear said gently. "And this is my favorite pool."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Magic pools make many things possible," Bartholomew smiled. "This water remembers every wish ever whispered here. Want to see?"
The bear touched the pool with one giant paw. Ripples turned into pictures—children laughing, families hugging, dreams coming true. Lily saw her own wish from last birthday: to find a true friend.
"The pool doesn't grant wishes," Bartholomew explained. "It shows us what we already have. Look closely."
In the water's reflection, Lily saw herself sitting beside the bear, both of them smiling. She realized something wonderful: her wish had already come true. She HAD found a friend—a magical, starlight bear friend.
"Will you come back?" Lily asked.
"Every full moon," Bartholomew promised. "Real magic isn't about wishes coming true exactly how we imagine. It's about discovering that what we need is often already beside us, waiting to be noticed."
Lily hugged the bear's soft, shimmering fur. The water in the pool danced with starlight, as if applauding their friendship.
As she walked home, Lily understood: some treasures aren't found—they're recognized. And the best magic pools are the ones that reflect both the stars above AND the love in our hearts.
