The Starlight Bull's Garden
Leo discovered the thick black cable behind his grandmother's house while chasing a firefly. It snaked through the tall grass like a sleeping snake, disappearing into the sky above the old oak tree.
Curious, Leo gave the cable a gentle tug. Suddenly, the night sky rippled like water. A constellation bull made of twinkling stars slid down the invisible line, landing softly beside him with a clinking sound, like wind chimes in a summer breeze.
"You've found my star-cable," said the bull, whose voice sounded like distant thunder wrapped in velvet. "I am Taurus, keeper of the midnight garden."
Taurus led Leo to a hidden gate, and what Leo saw made his gasp catch in his throat. A secret garden glowed with soft blue light, where ordinary spinach leaves grew as big as umbrellas and shimmered like moonstones.
"This spinach doesn't make your muscles strong like the stories say," Taurus explained. "It makes your HEART strong. One bite, and you'll have the courage to be kind even when you're scared."
Leo's eyes widened. He'd been afraid to tell his teacher he'd lost the library book. He'd been scared to apologize to his friend Maya after their argument.
Taurus nuzzled Leo's hand with a starry nose. "True bravery isn't about not being afraid. It's about doing what's right BECAUSE you're afraid, but you do it anyway."
Leo took a small bite of the glowing spinach. It tasted like stardust and peppermint, like wishes wrapped in sweetness. Warmth spread through his chest, and he knew—deep in his bones—that he could do hard things.
The star-cable began to fade as dawn approached. Taurus climbed back toward his constellation home. "Remember," the bull called down, "the magic wasn't in the spinach. It was in you all along."
Leo woke up in his own bed. Had it been a dream? But when he looked out his window at the old oak tree, a single spinach leaf shimmered with starlight, and for the first time, he wasn't afraid to do what was right.
