The Starlight Bull
Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house, especially at dusk when the sky turned purple and the first stars peeked out. One evening, she spotted something she'd never seen before — a enormous white bull standing near the old oak tree, his coat gleaming like moonlight.
Lily approached cautiously. The bull lowered his massive head and spoke in a voice like distant thunder. "I've been waiting for you, Lily. I'm Orion, the Starlight Bull. I need your help."
"You can talk?" Lily gasped.
"I can do many things," Orion said sadly. "But I've lost my magic. Every hundred years, I must consume a special friendship vitamin to keep my powers. But the last child who found me was afraid. She ran away. Now my magic fades with each sunset."
Lily's grandmother had told her about friendship vitamins — they weren't medicine you swallowed, but moments of kindness and bravery that made your heart grow stronger. "I'm not afraid," Lily said, stepping closer. "I'll be your friend."
She placed her hand on Orion's velvety nose. A warm golden light pulsed between them. Orion's eyes shone brighter than stars.
"The vitamin is working!" he exclaimed. "But there's one more thing we must do together — we must go running across the night sky to restore my constellation.
Orion lowered himself so Lily could climb onto his broad back. With a mighty leap, they soared upward, leaving the ground far below. They raced past the moon, looped around comets, and dashed through galaxies of sparkling dust. The wind sang in Lily's ears as they ran together through the velvet darkness, leaving trails of stardust wherever they galloped.
Finally, Orion slowed and settled among a cluster of bright stars that formed the shape of a bull with horns and a body. "This is my home," he said warmly. "Thank you for the vitamin of your friendship, Lily. I'll shine over you every night, and whenever you need courage, just look up and remember our run."
Lily woke up in her bed the next morning, wondering if it had all been a dream. But when she looked in the mirror, a tiny sparkle of stardust still glimmered in her hair. From that night on, whenever she felt lonely or scared, she would gaze at the stars and find Orion's constellation winking back at her, reminding her that friendship is the strongest magic of all.
