The Starlight Bear's Midnight Swim
Luna loved her stuffed bear, Barnaby. He had soft brown fur and one button eye that always seemed to wink at her when the moon shone through her window. One starry night, Luna whispered, "I wish I had a real friend who could go on adventures with me."
Suddenly, Barnaby twitched! His plush paw patted her hand, and his cotton-stuffed body grew warm and fuzzy. "I've always been your friend, Luna," Barnaby rumbled in a voice like honey and thunder. "Tonight, let's swim through the stars!"
He led her to the window, where moonlight had woven a silver ladder all the way to the sky. Luna climbed on Barnaby's fuzzy back, and together they soared upward, leaving their sleepy town far below.
The sky was an ocean of midnight blue, sprinkled with glittering stars that tickled Luna's toes as she went swimming through the constellations. She dipped her hands in stardust that tasted like vanilla ice cream and cloudberries.
Suddenly, something enormous and gentle blocked their path. It was a great bull made entirely of constellations — his horns were crescent moons, his nose the red star Aldebaran, and his body glowed with a thousand twinkling lights.
"Please, Mr. Bull," Luna called bravely, "we're on an adventure! Will you help us?" The constellation bull lowered his massive starry head and nuzzled Luna's palm with a nose that felt like warm sunshine. "No one has ever asked me nicely before," he said sadly. "Everyone runs away because I look so big and scary."
"You're not scary," Luna said, scratching behind his glowing ear. "You're magnificent!"
The bull beamed, his whole body twinkling brighter. He invited Luna and Barnaby to ride on his back as he galloped through the Milky Way, showing them the Cradle of Baby Stars and the River of Dreams made from children's happy wishes.
When morning approached, the bull carried them home. "Thank you for seeing the real me," he whispered. "I'll always be your friend, Luna. Just look for my brightest star when you need me."
Back in her room, Luna hugged Barnaby tight. His button eye winked again, and Luna knew magic was real — and that sometimes the kindest friends are the ones who look different than you expect.
