The Star-Spy's Secret
Lily loved summer nights at Grandma's beach house. While everyone slept, she'd slip outside to whisper secrets to the waves. One moonlit night, something sparkled in her palm.
"Hello there!" squeaked the tiniest creature Lily had ever seen. He glowed like a captured starfish, with silver wings and eyes full of cosmic wonder.
"I'm Twinkle, the star-spy!" he announced. "I spy on wishes so they don't get lost!"
Lily giggled. "A star-spy? That's the silliest thing I've ever heard!"
Twinkle puffed up indignantly. "It's a very important job! Last week, I saved a wish about finding a lost puppy. And the week before, I caught a wish that someone wanted to be brave enough to swim in the deep end!"
Lily's eyes widened. "Could you spy on MY wish?"
"I already know it," Twinkle winked. "You wish you could explore the underwater kingdom without getting wet!"
Lily gasped. "How did you—"
"Come with me!" Twinkle grabbed her finger, and suddenly Lily was swimming through sparkling starlight. They dove through constellations, raced past comets, and danced with Neptune's pearls.
"This is AMAZING!" Lily laughed, doing somersaults through a galaxy of tiny bubbles.
"Star-swimming is better than regular swimming," Twinkle said. "No wet bathing suits!"
They landed softly on the beach as dawn painted the sky pink. Twinkle curled up in Lily's palm, dimming his glow.
"Will I see you again?" Lily whispered.
"Every time you wish on a star," Twinkle yawned, "I'll be there to make sure it arrives safely."
Lily ran inside, her palm still tingling with stardust. Some secrets were too wonderful to keep—but the best ones were worth sharing with the stars.
