The Star in My Palm

Mia loved spending her summer days at the beach, but she always wished she had someone to share her adventures with. The other children had brothers and sisters, but Mia was an only child who often felt lonely.

One especially hot afternoon, while sitting under her favorite palm tree, Mia noticed something strange. A tiny blue spark was dancing in her palm, no bigger than a firefly. When she gently closed her hand, the spark giggled!

"Hello!" said the spark, and suddenly a tiny girl no larger than Mia's thumb appeared, wearing a dress made of stardust and moonlight. "I'm Luna, and I'm a star who fell from the sky last night. I've been waiting for someone kind enough to help me return home."

Mia's eyes widened with wonder. "But how can we get you back up there?"

"We'll need to go swimming," Luna said mysteriously. "Not in the ocean, but through the River of Dreams that flows between earth and sky. But only someone with a brave heart can travel there."

That night, when the moon was high, Luna taught Mia the secret of entering the Dream River. Hand in tiny hand, they dove into the moonlight and found themselves swimming through a stream of pure starlight. All around them, memories and dreams floated like glowing fish.

"The dreams of lonely children look like gray stones," Luna whispered sadly. "But dreams of friends sparkle like diamonds."

Mia understood then that even though she had felt lonely, she had never stopped believing in magic and friendship. Her heart had stayed open and hopeful, and that's why Luna had chosen her.

They swam higher and higher, past clouds that tasted like cotton candy, until they reached the edge of the night sky. Mia lifted Luna up, and her tiny friend caught hold of a passing comet.

"Thank you, Mia!" Luna called as she zoomed upward. "You showed me that true friendship isn't about how big you are, but how big your heart is. Look for me in the brightest star!"

From that night on, Mia was never truly lonely. Whenever she looked up at the stars, she knew Luna was shining down, and sometimes, if she looked very carefully at her palm, she could still see a tiny blue sparkle waiting for their next adventure.
