The Star in My Palm
Lily loved summer nights best of all. That's when she could lie on the grass in her backyard and watch the stars dance across the sky like tiny fireflies.
One evening, something magical happened. A shooting star streaked across the darkness—and landed right in her backyard with the softest *ping* sound imaginable.
Lily rushed to investigate. There, resting gently in the center of a fallen palm frond, sat a tiny star no bigger than a button. It glowed with a warm, golden light that pulsed like a heartbeat.
"Oh no," the star whispered in a voice like wind chimes. "I've fallen, and I don't know how to get home."
Lily scooped the star into the palm of her hand. The little star felt warm and cozy, like holding a tiny piece of sunshine after a storm.
"Don't worry," Lily said. "I'll help you. We'll figure this out together."
"But I'm hungry," the star sighed, its light growing dimmer. "I need Starlight Vitamins to glow bright enough to fly home again."
"Starlight Vitamins?" Lily asked.
The star nodded. "They're special specks of magic found in acts of kindness. Every time someone does something helpful for another, a Starlight Vitamin appears."
Lily's eyes widened. "Then we'll collect them together!"
All afternoon, Lily and her new friend embarked on kindness adventures. They helped Mrs. Hernandez carry her grocery bags. They left flowers on Mr. Chen's porch. They even comforted a crying toddler who had dropped their ice cream.
With each kind act, Lily felt a warm tingle in her palm. A tiny sparkle appeared—blue, pink, green, yellow—the Starlight Vitamins!
By sunset, the star in Lily's palm was glowing brighter than ever, filled with a rainbow of magical vitamins.
"I'm ready!" the star cheered.
Lily lifted her hands high. The star shot upward in a brilliant arc of light, trailing sparkles like a comet. As it reached its place in the night sky, it twinkled three times—thank you, thank you, thank you.
That night, Lily fell asleep with the happiest feeling in her heart. She had learned something wonderful: the best way to help a friend is to spread kindness wherever you go. And every time she looked at the stars from then on, one particular star seemed to glow just a little brighter, winking at the girl who had become its forever friend.
