The Star-Eater's Promise
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's attic, where old secrets slept. One rainy afternoon, she found a dusty book that glowed when she touched it. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed through the window — not from the sky, but from the book itself!
A sphinx emerged, his fur made of stardust, his eyes holding ancient kindness. "Greetings, young keeper," he purred. "The Galaxy Library needs your help."
He whisked Lily through clouds of cotton candy to a magical pool where stars went swimming. "Nightmares have turned some stars into sleepy wanderers," the sphinx explained. "We call them star-zombies, because they drift without sparkle. Will you help them remember their light?"
Lily nodded bravely. A gentle bull with a coat like golden honey appeared. "I'm Ferdinand," he said softly. "I'll carry you across the Sky River."
Lily climbed onto Ferdinand's back as they swam through constellations. She reached out to each dim star, whispering stories of hope and friendship. One by one, they brightened, their sleepy faces transforming into radiant grins.
"Thank you," the smallest star twinkled. "I forgot that being kind to others keeps your own light shining."
The sphinx smiled. "You've restored balance, Lily. But remember — your real gift wasn't magic. It was believing that even the sleepiest stars still have light inside them."
Ferdinand carried Lily home, leaving a trail of sparkles on her pillow. She woke to sunshine, wondering if it had been a dream. But in her pocket, she found a tiny glowing stone — and knew that kindness, like starlight, never truly fades.
