The Star-Dust Baseball

Leo hated spinach. Every time his mom served those green leafy piles on his plate, he would make a face and push it away.

One sunny afternoon, Leo was playing baseball in his backyard. He wound up his arm and threw the ball with all his might—but it sailed way too far! Over the fence it went, landing somewhere in the dense woods behind his house.

Leo grabbed his flashlight and went searching. He pushed through prickly bushes and stepped over fallen logs until he spotted something magical—a crystal-clear pool glowing with soft blue light, right in the middle of the forest. And floating in the center was his baseball!

But that wasn't the strangest part. Growing all around the pool were enormous green plants with sparkling leaves. They shimmered like emeralds in the sunlight.

An old turtle with a shell full of moss poked its head from the water. "Those are star-dust spinach plants," the turtle said in a rumbly voice. "They only grow where magic pools hide."

"Magic?" Leo's eyes went wide.

"Indeed," nodded the turtle. "The star-dust spinach gives magical energy to anything nearby. That's why your baseball floated instead of sank. It's absorbing the magic!"

Leo carefully plucked a shimmering leaf. As soon as he touched his baseball with it, the ball began to glow golden and float above his hand!

"Wow!" Leo gasped.

"Remember," the turtle whispered, "magic isn't about avoiding what you don't like. Sometimes the things we think are ordinary—like spinach—hold the most extraordinary secrets."

Leo rushed home, his floating baseball bobbing beside him. At dinner that night, when his mom served spinach, Leo took a big bite and smiled, imagining tiny stars dancing on his tongue.

"This spinach tastes... magical," he said.

His mom blinked in surprise. "I'll remember that."

And from that day on, Leo looked at everything—even the green leafy things on his plate— wondering what magic they might be hiding.
