The Star-Cable and the Padel of Dreams

Lily was supposed to be sleeping. But she wasn't. She was staring out her window at the stars, when something shimmered in the moonlight.

A golden cable, thin as spider silk but glowing with twinkling blue light, dangled from the night sky right outside her window.

"That wasn't there before," Lily whispered.

She reached out. The cable felt warm, like sunshine trapped in thread. Gently, she pulled. Up, up, up it came, until something emerged from the clouds above.

It was a small boat, no bigger than a bathtub, floating in mid-air. And inside sat a round, furry creature with fluffy purple fur, enormous golden eyes, and what looked like ping-pong paddles for hands.

"Hello!" the creature chirped. "I'm a Padel. We paddle dreams through the sky!"

"I'm Lily," she breathed. "Can I come?"

"Only if you promise to be my friend," said the Padel. "Dream paddling takes two."

Lily climbed into the little boat. The Padel handed her a small glowing paddle. Together, they paddled through clouds that tasted like cotton candy. They sailed past the moon, which winked at them. They dipped down to touch the tops of mountains, where snow sparkled like diamonds.

"Where does the cable go?" Lily asked.

"It connects every child's window to the Dream World," the Padel explained. "But only the curious ones ever pull it."

They sailed until dawn painted the sky pink. The Padel gave Lily a warm hug with his fluffy paddle-hands.

"Come back tomorrow night," he said. "Bring a friend. The best adventures are better with friends."

Lily climbed back through her window, the golden cable unspooling behind her. She snuggled into bed, her heart full of starlight and new friendship.

Some things, she learned, are only discovered by those curious enough to pull the golden thread.
