The Star-Cable Adventure
Toby was a lonely boy with only one friend—a goldfish named Finn who swam in a bowl on his nightstand. Every night before bed, Toby would press his nose against the glass and whisper his secrets to the orange fish with shimmery scales.
"I wish I had more friends," Toby sighed one evening. "Just you and me against the world."
Finn swam to the surface and blew a curious bubble. *POP*
That night, Toby woke to a strange glow. Finn was floating outside his bowl!
"Toby!" said the goldfish. "I've been waiting for you to believe in magic!"
Toby rubbed his eyes. "You can talk?"
"I can do much more," Finn said mysteriously. "Follow me!"
Finn swam through the air as if it were water. Toby followed, still in his pajamas. They climbed out the window and there, shimmering in the moonlight, was a golden cable that stretched all the way from Toby's window up into the stars.
"Grab on!" Finn called.
Toby gripped the cable, and WHOOSH! They zoomed upward, past clouds and shooting stars, until they reached a magnificent pyramid floating in space. Its walls were made of crystallized light, and inside, millions of tiny glowing sparks swirled like a galaxy.
"This is the Pyramid of Wishes," Finn explained. "Every wish a child makes comes here. Some fade away, but the ones made with love and friendship stay forever."
Inside the pyramid, Toby saw his wishes floating there—all the times he'd wished for friends.
"They didn't fade," Toby whispered.
"No," said Finn. "Because you already had a friend. You just didn't see me clearly enough."
Toby hugged Finn. "You're the best friend ever!"
They slid back down the star-cable, landing softly in Toby's room. Finn swam back into his bowl with a splash.
"Will we go again?" Toby asked.
"Whenever you want," Finn bubbled. "That's what friends do—they keep visiting each other, no matter how far apart they seem."
From then on, Toby was never lonely. He had a friend who could take him anywhere, and he learned that the best adventures aren't about where you go, but who you go with.
