The Star Bull's Secret Game
Lily discovered the goldfish by accident. She'd dropped her favorite marble into the pond behind Grandma's house, and when she peered into the water, the goldfish popped up and said, "You look like you need an adventure."
Lily nearly fell in. "You can talk?"
"I can do much more than talk," the goldfish said. "I can show you where the stars go when they fall from the sky."
"How?" Lily asked, her eyes wide.
"By swimming, of course!" The goldfish splashed water onto Lily's shoes—which suddenly transformed into shimmering golden fins. "Jump in!"
Lily took a breath and dove. But instead of hitting the bottom, she kept falling deeper and deeper into blue water that sparkled like diamonds. Up and up she swam, until she burst through the surface into a place where the sky was purple and clouds were made of cotton candy.
"Welcome to the Pyramid of Lost Stars," the goldfish said.
Before them rose a magnificent pyramid that glowed with all the colors of sunset. But something was wrong. A great bull with silver fur and constellation patterns on his coat sat alone at the top, his massive horns drooping sadly.
"That's Orion," the goldfish whispered. "He guards the fallen stars, but he's so lonely. No one wants to play with someone so big."
Lily's heart squeezed. She remembered how kids at school avoided her because she was too tall for her age. "Maybe he just needs the right game."
She climbed to the top of the pyramid, where stars lay scattered like marbles. "Hello," she said softly.
The bull looked up with eyes full of starlight. "Hello, little one. Are you afraid?"
"Nope!" Lily grinned. "Do you know how to play padel?"
The bull's eyes widened. "The game with the magical rackets? I've always wanted to learn!"
Lily conjured two golden padel rackets from the stardust. They played for hours, batting shooting stars back and forth across the pyramid's peak. Orion laughed so hard that new stars sprinkled from his horns like glitter.
"Will you come back?" he asked as the goldfish called that it was time to leave.
"Every night," Lily promised. "I'll look for your star in the sky, and I'll know you're waiting for our next game."
When Lily surfaced back in Grandma's pond, her fins were gone. But in her pocket, she found a tiny glowing marble—a piece of stardust from the most magical game ever played.
Sometimes the biggest, scariest-looking creatures just need a friend. And sometimes the best adventures begin with a single splash.
