The Star-Bull's Orange Gift
Lila loved the old palm tree in her backyard. Its rough bark felt like grandfather skin, and the fronds swished whispers when the wind blew through them. Every evening, she'd sit beneath its leaves and watch the stars appear, one by one.
One Tuesday, something strange happened. A tiny creature tumbled from the night sky and landed with a soft plop in the palm of Lila's hand. It wasn't a bird or a bug. It was a miniature bull made of stardust, no bigger than her thumb, with fur that shimmered like moonlight on water.
"Oh!" Lila whispered. "You fell from the stars!"
The little bull nodded its shimmering head and looked up at her with sad, silver eyes. Its glow was fading, growing dimmer by the second.
Lila remembered what her grandmother had said about star creatures. They needed magic to stay bright—magic from special things on Earth. She looked around desperately. What could help?
Her eyes landed on the orange tree near the fence. Not just any orange—the one fruit that had glowed golden when the sunset hit it yesterday. The one that felt warm to the touch, as if it held a piece of the sun inside.
"Wait here!" Lila told the bull, and she scrambled to the orange tree. She found that special fruit, plucked it carefully, and rushed back.
The bull's light was almost gone now. With shaking hands, Lila peeled the orange. The scent filled the air—citrus and sunshine and sweetness. She held out a segment to the tiny creature.
The bull nibbled. And suddenly—FLASH!—its fur blazed brighter than ever, silver-white with hints of orange-gold. It grew slightly too, until it was the size of a small puppy. It nuzzled Lila's palm with its warm nose, and she felt tingles all the way to her toes.
"Thank you," the bull seemed to say without speaking. It bounded upward, higher and higher, trailing sparkles like a comet. As it rejoined the stars, it formed a new constellation Lila had never seen before—a bull with a bright orange heart.
Every night now, Lila waves to her friend in the sky. And sometimes, just sometimes, the orange tree grows the most magical, sun-warmed fruit, as if the stars are saying thank you too.
