The Star Bull's Golden Cable
Every morning, Lily woke up with one thought in her heart: running.
She loved the way the wind tickled her cheeks as she sprinted through the meadow behind her house. Her bare feet pattered against the soft grass, and her laughter mixed with the birds' songs.
One particularly sparkly Saturday, Lily noticed something she'd never seen before. A thick, shimmering golden cable stretched across the sky, disappearing behind the distant mountains.
"What IS that?" Lily wondered aloud.
Her feet started running before she even decided to move. The golden cable seemed to hum with a gentle melody, calling her name. "Lily... Lily... follow me..."
She ran past the old oak tree, across the babbling brook, and up the grassy hill. The cable was getting closer now, glowing brighter with every step.
At the top of the highest mountain, Lily gasped. The golden cable ended at a magnificent creature—a great white bull with silver hooves and a constellation marking his forehead. He looked at her with kind, twinkling eyes.
"I've been waiting for someone who loves running as much as I do," the bull said gently. "My name is Orion."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
Orion nodded. "And I have a problem. My golden cable connects all the stars in the sky, but it's been tangled for centuries. I need someone fast and brave to help me fix it."
Lily's heart beat with excitement. "I can help!"
Orion lowered his giant silver hoof, and suddenly Lily found herself sitting on his back. They soared into the sky, the golden cable stretching before them like a glittering pathway.
For hours, Lily and Orion worked together. She would slide down the cable like it was a rainbow slide, untangling knots where stars had gotten stuck. She ran along the cable, jumping over twisted sections, her laughter echoing through the constellations.
"Thank you, Lily," Orion said as the last knot loosened. The stars blazed brighter than ever before. "You've brought back the light to our galaxy."
He touched her forehead with his nose, leaving a tiny star-shaped mark. "Now you'll always run faster than anyone else."
Lily woke up in her meadow, the sun warming her face. Had it all been a dream? She sat up and touched her forehead—a tiny star-shaped mark glowed there.
She smiled, stood up, and started running. And somehow, her feet felt lighter than ever before, as if she could run all the way to the stars.
