The Star Bull of Moonlight Meadow
Maya had the most unusual hair in her village. It wasn't brown or black or golden — it changed color with her moods. When she was happy, it shimmered like sunrise. When she was sad, it turned the color of rain clouds. And when she was excited? It glowed with all the colors of the rainbow.
One evening, while running through Moonlight Meadow, Maya spotted something extraordinary. A magnificent creature stood near the old wishing well — but not an ordinary bull. This one had a coat that sparkled like the night sky, with tiny glowing patterns that shifted like constellations. His horns curved elegantly, catching the starlight.
"Hello," Maya whispered, approaching slowly. The bull didn't run away. Instead, his coat pulsed gently, like a heartbeat of light.
"I've been waiting for you," the bull spoke, his voice warm like honey. "I'm Orion, and I need your help."
Maya's hair flashed with curiosity, turning a brilliant shade of violet. "What kind of help?"
"I fell from the sky during the meteor shower last week," Orion explained. "My star-stone — the gem that gives me power to return home — is stuck in that old well. I can't reach it alone."
Without hesitation, Maya grabbed the bucket's rope. But as she peered into the darkness, her foot slipped on the mossy stones.
"Maya!" Orion lunged forward, catching her just in time. His warmth radiated like sunshine.
"My hair!" Maya gasped. "Look at it!"
Her hair wasn't just violet anymore — it had transformed into pure light, streaming upward like a magical rope reaching into the well's depths. The glow extended down, down, down until it wrapped around something bright and twinkling.
Together, Maya and Orion pulled. The star-stone emerged, pulsing with ancient power. Orion's coat blazed with gratitude.
"You're my truest friend," Orion said. "For your kindness, I grant you a gift — whenever you're running, your hair will light your path through any darkness."
As Orion ascended back to the stars, Maya's hair returned to normal, but now it held a permanent sparkle — a reminder that friendship and courage shine brightest in the dark.
From that night on, whenever Maya went running through Moonlight Meadow, her hair glowed softly, and sometimes, if she looked up at the constellation Orion, she could swear the bull winked back.
