The Star-Bull of Moonlight Creek
Lily loved being a spy. Every Saturday, she'd sneak through the tall grass behind her house with her special spy glass, searching for adventures. One evening, as the sun began to set, she heard something strange near Moonlight Creek.
Creeeak. Splash!
Lily crept closer, staying low in the grass. Through her spy glass, she saw the most amazing thing—a giant bull made of shimmering stars, tangled in the bushes by the water's edge! His horns glowed like moonbeams, and his coat sparkled with constellations.
"Oh no," the Star-Bull sighed, his voice sounding like wind chimes. "I slipped while running across the sky. Now I'm stuck!"
Lily stepped forward. "I can help you!"
The Star-Bull's eyes widened. "A friend? I haven't had a real friend in a thousand years. Everyone's always afraid of my size."
"I'm not afraid," Lily said bravely. "My name's Lily, and I'm the best spy in all of Moonlight Creek. I can spot problems from a mile away."
She quickly untangled the Star-Bull's horns from the blackberry bushes. But when he tried to stand, his starlight coat flickered and dimmed. Without the sky's magic, he was becoming too heavy to move.
"The water," Lily gasped. "Star-bulls need moonlight reflected in water to shine!"
Together, they rolled a big rock into the middle of the creek. Water splashed up in droplets that caught the last light of the setting sun and the first light of the rising moon. The Star-Bull stepped onto the wet rock, and suddenly—WHOOSH!
His coat blazed with brilliant light. With a thankful nod to Lily, he leaped upward, running across a bridge of starlight all the way back to his place in the constellation.
From that night on, whenever Lily looked up at Taurus the Bull, she could swear the star-bull winked at her. And she knew that sometimes the best spies aren't the ones who hide and watch—they're the ones who step forward to help when someone needs a friend.
