The Spy Who Saw Stars

Lily was the best spy in all of Oakwood Elementary. Every day after school, she'd peek through her magical telescope — the one her grandmother called "the spyglass" — and watch the stars wink back at her.

One Tuesday evening, something extraordinary happened. A golden sphinx fluttered down from the sky and landed right on her windowsill! It wasn't scary like the ones in books. This sphinx had sparkly butterfly wings and a nose that twitched like a curious bunny.

"Greetings, little spy," the sphinx said in a voice like jingling bells. "I've been watching you watch us."

Lily gasped. "You can see ME? I thought I was the one doing the spying!"

The sphinx laughed, a sound like wind chimes. "The stars have been your vitamin for months now. Every time you look up, we sprinkle a little bit of courage into your heart. It's our special star-vitamin — it helps brave spies like you dream big."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Really? But my mom says vitamins come from oranges."

"Some do," the sphinx nodded wisely. "But the most important vitamins — curiosity, kindness, courage — those come from keeping your heart open to wonder."

The sphinx reached into her sparkly pouch and pulled out a tiny glowing crystal. "This is a friendship vitamin. It's for you."

Lily took it gently. It warmed her hands like sunshine.

"Whenever you feel lonely," the sphinx whispered, "hold this close. Remember: you're never really alone when you have friends among the stars."

From that night on, Lily was still a spy — but now she spied on beauty everywhere. In her neighbor's smile. In her dad's laugh. In the way dewdrops caught the morning light.

And every night, she'd wave to her sphinx friend, who danced among the stars, sprinkling vitamins of wonder for all the children of the world to find.

The best spies, Lily learned, weren't the ones who uncovered secrets. They were the ones who discovered magic in the most unexpected places — and shared it with everyone they met.
