The Spinach That Ran Away
Sophie had the strangest hair in her class. It wasn't just curly—it was MAGICAL curly. Every time she got excited, tiny purple sparks would dance through her bangs like fireflies.
One Tuesday, Sophie's grandmother planted something mysterious in her garden. "Special spinach," Grandma whispered with a wink. "But it only grows for children who believe in impossible things."
That night, Sophie heard giggling outside her window. She tiptoed into the garden and gasped. The spinach plants were stretching their leafy arms—and RUNNING! Tiny green legs had sprouted from the stems, and they were racing around the garden like silly little athletes.
"Catch us if you can!" the spinach cheered in leafy voices.
Sophie's hair erupted with purple sparkles. She laughed and started running too, chasing the dancing vegetables around moonlit tomato plants and under sleepy sunflowers. They played tag until the sky turned pink.
"Why were you running?" Sophie asked, out of breath.
"Because vegetables need exercise too!" the spinach explained. "And we needed someone fun to play with. Your hair told us you were the right friend."
From then on, every night Sophie ran with her spinach friends. She learned that being different—with her magical hair and her vegetable companions—was the most wonderful adventure of all.
The spinach grew extra big and tasty. Sophie shared it with her class, telling them about her midnight running club. Some believed her. Some didn't. But Sophie just smiled, feeling her hair tingle with magic.
Sometimes, she whispered, the best friends are the ones you find when you're running after something impossible.
