The Spinach Seed's Wish
Lila loved the ocean. She spent every day walking along the sandy shore, collecting shiny shells and watching the waves dance. But Lila had a secret—she was afraid of swimming. The deep blue water scared her, even though she desperately wanted to explore the magical world beneath the waves.
One morning, Lila found something strange washed up on the beach. It wasn't a shell or a piece of driftwood. It was a tiny, bright green sprout that looked exactly like a baby spinach leaf, but it sparkled like emeralds in the sunlight.
"Please help me," the spinach leaf whispered. "I need to return to the Coral Kingdom, but I can't swim alone."
Lila gasped. The spinach could talk! She gently lifted the tiny leaf into her palm, where it curled up comfortably like a little green blanket.
"I'm scared of swimming," Lila admitted softly. "The water is so deep."
"But that's where the magic lives!" said the spinach. "The Coral Kingdom is the most beautiful place in the world. There are fish that glow like stars, seaweed that sings songs, and pearls that grant wishes. My grandmother lives there, and she's been waiting for me to bring her a special gift."
Lila looked at her open palm, where the little spinach leaf sparkled with hope. She looked at the ocean, which suddenly seemed less scary and more inviting.
"Will you stay with me?" Lila asked.
"Always," the spinach promised. "Hold me tight in your palm, and I'll help you be brave."
Lila took a deep breath and waded into the water. At first, she only went ankle-deep. Then knee-deep. With each step, the spinach in her palm glowed a little brighter, filling her with courage. Soon, she was floating. Then swimming. The water wasn't scary at all—it felt like being wrapped in a warm, gentle hug.
They swam deeper and deeper, past colorful fish and swaying seaweed, until they reached a magnificent palace made of coral. There lived the spinach's grandmother, the Guardian of the Reef.
"Thank you for bringing my granddaughter home," the guardian said. "For your kindness and courage, I grant you one wish."
Lila thought carefully. "I wish that every child who's afraid of swimming could have a friend to help them be brave."
The guardian smiled and tapped Lila's palm with her magical staff. From that day on, whenever Lila went swimming, tiny sparkling spinach leaves would appear in the water around her, guiding nervous children toward their own adventures.
Lila still carries that special spinach leaf in her palm sometimes, just to remember that being brave doesn't mean you're not afraid—it means you're kind enough to help others even when you're scared yourself.
