The Sphinx Who Wanted a Friend
High above the clouds, where stars twinkled like tiny lanterns, lived a small sphinx named Cleo. Unlike other sphinxes who guarded ancient secrets, Cleo guarded something much more precious—a collection of wishes she'd caught in glass jars.
One night, Cleo spotted a golden cable stretching from Earth all the way to her cloud castle. It shimmered like spun sunlight. Being the most curious sphinx in the sky, she decided to follow it.
Down, down, down she floated, her paws barely touching the cable as she slid toward Earth. The cable led to a cozy bedroom where a girl named Mia slept beside a small fishbowl.
Inside the bowl swam a tiny goldfish named Fin, who was actually quite magical. Fin could see dreams, and right now, Mia was dreaming about making a new friend.
Cleo pressed her face against the window, feeling like a spy on a secret mission. But Fin spotted her!
"You're not very good at spying," Fin bubbled through the glass. "Your wings keep glowing."
Mia woke up to find a sphinx on her windowsill and a talking goldfish in her room. Most children would have been scared. But Mia had been wishing for adventure.
"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said shyly. "I collect wishes. I saw yours floating up to my castle."
"And I'm Fin," the goldfish swished his tail. "I see dreams. Yours was very sparkly."
Mia's eyes widened. "You both came because of my wish?"
Cleo nodded. "Friendship is the most powerful magic. It travels faster than starlight."
That night, they made a pact—Cleo would teach Mia about the clouds, Fin would share his dream visions, and Mia would teach them both about human things like pillow forts and hot chocolate.
The golden cable still connects their worlds, a reminder that the best friendships often find us in the most unexpected ways.
And sometimes, all you need to do is make a wish—and keep your heart open to the wonderful magic that follows.
