The Sphinx Who Swam

Leo had a secret. His pet goldfish, Fin, could talk! Every night when the moon shone through the window, Fin would whisper stories about magical worlds.

"There's something special under the old willow tree," Fin said one evening, his orange scales glowing softly. "A sphinx who lives in the water!"

The next morning, Leo rushed to the pond behind the willow tree. The water sparkled like diamonds. He closed his eyes and made a wish — to see something truly magical.

Suddenly, the water began to swirl. A nose poked through the surface, then whiskers, then two golden eyes. The creature emerged — a sphinx with wet fur and drooping butterfly wings!

"I've been stuck in this water for three hundred years," the sphinx said sadly. "A wizard cursed me because I was too proud. Now I can only leave if someone becomes my true friend."

Leo's heart ached. He knew exactly what to do. Every day, he visited the sphinx. They played games, told jokes, and shared snacks. The sphinx's name was Cleo, and she was funny and kind.

One month later, something amazing happened. Cleo's wings began to dry and fluff up. Her fur turned from soggy to soft. She stepped out of the water completely free!

"You saved me," Cleo said, nuzzling Leo's cheek. "Not with magic, but with friendship."

From that day on, Leo had two special friends — Fin the talking goldfish and Cleo the water sphinx. They taught him that the strongest magic isn't found in spells or wishes, but in kindness and the friends we choose.

Sometimes, if you look closely at the pond behind the willow tree, you might still see Fin's orange scales flashing, and if you're very lucky, you might hear Cleo's laughter rippling across the water.
