The Sphinx Who Shared the Water
Far beyond the golden sands, where the desert met the sky, stood a pyramid that glittered like a fallen star. Inside lived Cleo, a young sphinx with the body of a lion cub and the wings of a baby eagle. But Cleo had a secret — she was lonely.
Every day, Cleo sat at the very top of her pyramid, watching caravans pass in the distance. "I wish someone would visit," she sighed, her fluffy tail drooping.
One scorching afternoon, something magical happened. A drop of water splashed onto Cleo's nose. Then another. She looked up to see the most beautiful sight — a girl about her age, climbing the pyramid with a waterskin that had sprung a leak!
"Hello!" called the girl, whose name was Amara. "I'm so thirsty. Do you have any water?"
Cleo's heart raced. She had the greatest treasure in all the desert — a magical spring deep inside her pyramid. But the ancient sphinx law said: never share with humans.
Yet Amara looked so tired and kind. Cleo made a choice. "Follow me!"
Deep inside the pyramid, down corridors painted with stars and moons, they came to a glowing pool. The water sparkled like liquid diamonds. Amara drank gratefully, then did something surprising — she pulled out a small cup and filled it for Cleo too.
"We should share," Amara said with a smile. "That's what friends do."
Cleo had never had a friend before. That day, they played hide-and-seek among the pyramid's chambers, and Amara taught Cleo games from her village.
"Will you come back?" Cleo asked as sunset painted the sky purple.
"Every week," Amara promised. "And I'll bring my friends!"
And so the lonely sphinx learned that some rules are meant to be broken — especially when sharing leads to friendship. The pyramid was never quiet again, filled with laughter and the splashing of happy feet.
For Cleo discovered that the real magic wasn't in her water at all. It was in opening her heart to others.
