The Sphinx Who Needed a Friend
Lily discovered the golden cable glowing behind her grandmother's attic bookshelf. It hummed with a soft, magical tune, like tiny bells ringing in the wind. When she gave it a gentle tug, the wall shimmered like rainbows in a sprinkler, and suddenly she tumbled right through!
She landed in a desert of sparkling purple sand. In the center sat a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like sunset clouds. But the sphinx looked very sad indeed.
"Greetings, small one," the sphinx rumbled softly. "I am Cleopatra. I have been waiting 3,000 years for someone to find me."
Lily approached bravely. "Why are you sad?"
"My magic is fading," Cleopatra sighed. "I need the Golden Vitamin to restore my powers, but I cannot reach it. It floats high above the tallest pyramid."
Lily looked up. Sure enough, a glowing golden orb floated in the sky like a tiny sun. "I can help you climb!"
"But I have no claws for climbing," the sphinx said, lowering her magnificent head. "And my wings are too weak."
Lily had an idea. She grabbed the magic cable she'd discovered. "This brought me here — maybe it can help!"
Together, they wove the cable around the pyramid. Lily, being small and quick, scrambled up first. When she reached the Golden Vitamin, it was warm and bright, pulsing with pure happiness.
She carried it down carefully. The moment Cleopatra touched it, her emerald eyes sparkled brighter than stars. Her wings strengthened, and magic flowed through her like honey.
"Thank you, little friend," Cleopatra purred. "You gave me something more precious than any magic. You gave me your friendship and help."
The sphinx touched Lily's forehead with her golden paw. A warm, tingling sensation spread through her — the feeling of being truly special inside.
"Friendship," Cleopatra whispered, "is the strongest magic of all. It cannot be bought or found. It must be given freely, just as you gave it to me."
Lily hugged the sphinx's soft golden paw. When she returned through the shimmering wall, she discovered something wonderful: Cleopatra had given her a small golden compass that always pointed toward kindness.
Now, whenever Lily sees someone who needs help, she knows exactly where to go. Because that's what real friends do.
