The Sphinx Who Loved to Swim

Lily loved spying on secrets. Every morning, she peeked through her telescope at the old museum across the street. But today was different. Today, something magical happened.

At midnight, when the moon hung like a silver coin in the sky, Lily saw the stone sphinx on the museum roof stretch its giant paws. The sphinx's wings unfolded—wings nobody knew existed—and it leaped into the air!

Lily grabbed her backpack and followed. The sphinx flew to the city pool, which shimmered under moonlight. But this wasn't ordinary swimming. The sphinx dove into the water and disappeared beneath the surface.

When Lily peeked over the pool's edge, she gasped. The water had transformed into a portal to an underwater kingdom. Mermaids with rainbow tails played hide-and-seek with starfish. Sea turtles carried treasure chests on their backs.

The sphinx, whose name was Cleo, was swimming gracefully among them. She wasn't a monster at all—she was the guardian of this magical world!

"You're a better spy than I thought," Cleo said, popping her head up. "Most children never notice me leaving."

Lily's eyes widened. "You knew I was watching?"

Cleo laughed, creating bubbles that floated upward like tiny crystal balls. "Of course! Sphinxes see everything. But you're special. You have curiosity in your heart, and that's the magic key."

Cleo invited Lily to swim with her. As Lily dove into the water, she found she could breathe underwater! Together, they explored coral castles and danced with dolphins. Cleo showed Lily that the real treasures weren't gold or jewels, but friendship and wonder.

When morning approached, Cleo flew Lily home and promised, "Come back tomorrow night. But there's one rule: this magical pool must remain our secret. Some secrets are meant to be shared only with special friends."

Lily nodded, understanding that being a spy wasn't just about discovering secrets—it was about protecting them, too.

From that night on, Lily and Cleo had midnight adventures, swimming through enchanted waters and exploring a world that only appeared when the stars shone brightest. And Lily became the most careful, magical spy in all the world.
