The Sphinx Who Loved to Splash
In the golden desert where the sand dunes rolled like ocean waves, there lived a young sphinx named Cleo. Unlike the other sphinxes who sat still on stone pedestals asking riddles to passing travelers, Cleo was curious about everything.
One morning, she smelled something sweet and tropical carried on the wind. Following her nose, she discovered an oasis where palm trees swayed and bright papaya fruit grew in abundance. But that wasn't the most wonderful thing she found.
Near the sparkling pool, three children were playing padel, a fun game with racquets and a bouncy ball. They laughed as they hit the ball back and forth, their orange shirts bright against the blue sky.
"Hello!" called Cleo, her lion paws padding softly across the sand. "May I play?"
The children stared in wonder. "A talking sphinx!" exclaimed little Mia. "I thought you only asked riddles!"
"That's what grown-up sphinxes do," Cleo admitted. "But I'd rather make friends than test them."
The children — Mia, her brother Sam, and their friend Zara — welcomed Cleo warmly. They taught her to play padel, though she had to be careful not to hit the ball too hard with her paws. They shared sweet papaya with her for snack time.
"Come swimming with us!" Zara invited, pointing to the crystal-clear water.
Cleo hesitated. Sphinxes weren't known for swimming. But then she remembered what her grandmother always said: "True magic happens when you're brave enough to try new things."
She splashed into the water, surprised at how wonderful it felt. She couldn't swim like the children, but she discovered she could float on her back like a fluffy golden raft. The children took turns riding on her belly as she drifted.
"This is the best day ever!" Sam cheered, grabbing a slice of orange from their picnic basket.
As the sun painted the sky in pink and purple, Cleo realized something important. The other sphinxes sat alone on their pedestals because they never invited anyone to play. By choosing fun and friendship over riddles and rules, she had found something far more precious than gold or jewels.
She promised to return tomorrow, and every day after. Because Cleo the sphinx had learned the greatest lesson of all: life's biggest adventures begin with two simple words — "Let's play!"
