The Sphinx Who Loved to Run

Lily discovered something magical behind her school's old gym building. There, hidden in a patch of tall grass, was a tiny sphinx no bigger than her cat. The creature had the body of a lion, wings of a hawk, and the face of a wise little girl.

"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said, stretching her golden wings. "And I love running, but everyone says sphinxes should only sit still and ask riddles."

Lily's eyes widened. "But running is wonderful!"

Cleo smiled. "Exactly! Will you race me to the old swimming pool?"

"You're on!" Lily grinned.

Every day after school, Lily and Cleo would run together across the playground, their feet and paws thumping happily. Cleo was fast — her golden wings would flutter as she sprinted, making her look like a tiny, running comet.

But one day, they reached the pool and found the gate locked. A sign read: CLOSED FOR CLEANING.

Cleo's wings drooped. "Now we can't race anymore."

Lily thought hard. "Who says we need a finish line? The fun isn't about where we stop — it's about how fast we go! Let's run just because we love it!"

Cleo's golden eyes sparkled. "You're right! Running isn't about finishing; it's about flying while your feet touch the ground!"

And so they ran — around the school, through the garden, past the swings — faster than ever before, laughing and sprinting with no finish line in sight.

That afternoon, Cleo taught Lily an important lesson: sometimes the best journeys don't have endings at all. They just keep going, like friendship, like dreams, like the wind beneath your wings when you run simply because you can.
