The Sphinx Who Loved Swimming

Lila was running through the golden sand, her bare feet pattering softly against the warm earth. The Egyptian sun shone bright overhead as she followed her grandfather to the ancient pool hidden behind the ruins. But this was no ordinary swimming pool. The water shimmered with tiny sparkles that looked like captured stars.

"Be careful," her grandfather warned. "Legend says a sphinx guards these waters."

Lila laughed, splashing into the cool blue water. But then the water began to ripple. From the center of the pool rose not a scary monster, but the gentlest creature she had ever seen. The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of a wise old woman, her eyes sparkling with kindness.

"I am Seraphina," the sphinx said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I have guarded this magical pool for three thousand years. But today is special. Today, someone came not to take, but to simply enjoy."

Lila wasn't afraid. She swam closer, and soon they were playing together — the sphinx floating like a giant golden raft while Lila practiced her swimming strokes. Seraphina taught Lila that true magic wasn't about being powerful or scary, but about being kind and sharing.

"The ancient pharaohs built this pool to teach their children," Seraphina explained as the sun began to set. "They believed that happiness, like water, must be shared to grow."

That evening, Lila ran back to her grandfather, her heart full of joy and wonder. She had learned that sometimes the most magical friendships come from the most unexpected places, and that courage isn't about facing scary things — it's about keeping an open heart.

And every summer after that, Lila would return to the pool, running across the warm sand to visit her friend Seraphina, who would always be waiting with a splash and a smile, ready to teach another lesson about kindness, courage, and the magic of friendship.
