The Sphinx Who Loved Spinach
Lily was splashing in her backyard pool when something extraordinary happened. A tiny creature with golden wings and the face of a cat peeked out from behind the rose bushes.
"Greetings, young swimmer," said the creature. "I am Zora, the last backyard sphinx."
Lily's eyes went wide. "A real sphinx? In my garden?"
"Indeed," Zora sighed, curling up on a warm rock. "But I am in terrible trouble. You see, sphinxes need a special kind of vitamin to stay magical. And I have lost my stash of enchanted spinach."
"Spinach?" Lily giggled. "My grandma says spinach makes you strong!"
"Not just any spinach," Zora explained. "Moon-garden spinach, grown only under starlight. It gives us the vitamin of dreams. Without it, I'll fade away like morning mist."
Lily's heart swelled with determination. "Where can we find it?"
"In the pool of wishes," Zora whispered, pointing to Lily's swimming pool. "But be warned—the pool shows your true heart."
Hand in paw, they approached the shimmering water. The pool's surface rippled with rainbow colors. Lily looked deep into the water and saw not her reflection, but memories of every time she had shared her toys, helped her friends, and comforted her little brother.
"The spinach appears for kind hearts," Zora said gently. Sure enough, emerald-green spinach leaves floated to the surface, glowing with stardust.
Lily gathered them and Zora ate gratefully. "You saved me!" the sphinx chirped, her wings sparkling brighter than ever. "For your kindness, I give you this gift—whenever you splash in this pool, your dreams will grow stronger."
That night, Lily drifted to sleep with a smile. She had learned that the best magic comes not from enchantment, but from a heart full of kindness. And somewhere in her garden, a little sphinx purred, watching over her new friend.
