The Sphinx Who Loved Spinach
Lily never thought she'd make friends with a sphinx, especially one who played padel.
It started on a hot summer day when Lily followed a sparkling path behind her house. The path led to a hidden spring where the water glowed blue like captured moonlight. And there, resting on a mossy rock, was the most unusual creature she'd ever seen—a sphinx with golden fur and emerald eyes.
"I've been waiting for someone to play padel with me," the sphinx said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. She held a magical racket made of twisted sunlight.
Lily's eyes widened. "You know padel?"
"Of course! But first, you must answer my riddle." The sphinx grinned. "What makes you strong but isn't heavy? What's green but makes you brave? What grows from the earth but reaches for the sky?"
Lily thought hard. "Trees? No... clouds?" She shook her head.
"Spinach!" The sphinx laughed, pulling a crystal bowl from behind her rock. Inside were the most beautiful emerald-green leaves Lily had ever seen. They sparkled like tiny stars.
"Try some," said the sphinx. "It gives you magic powers for our game."
Lily had never liked spinach, but this looked different. She took a small bite—and suddenly felt energy tingling through her fingers! Her feet felt light as feathers.
"Now we play!" The sphinx served first, and the magical padel ball zoomed across an invisible court. They played for hours, the water spring bubbling with excitement. Every time Lily ate spinach between points, she played better.
"You're my first real friend," the sphinx said as the sun set. "Everyone else runs away when they see a sphinx. But you stayed."
Lily smiled. "And I learned that spinach can be magical."
"The magic wasn't the spinach," the sphinx whispered. "It was your bravery to try something new."
From that day on, Lily visited her sphinx friend. They played padel by the glowing water, ate star-spinach, and learned that the best things in life—like friendship and trying new foods—come from being brave enough to say yes to adventure.
